Broadway at Lyric continues with the timeless American musical, “West Side Story.” The iconic work by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim is a classic tale of forbidden love. “West Side Story,” which premiered in 1957, is one of Bernstein’s everlasting musical legacies that has touched generations. The musical masterpiece is packed with explosive and exuberant dance sequences as two rival gangs battle each other, while young lovers Tony and Maria persist in longing for “a place for us.” Bernstein’s music and Stephen Sondheim’s lyrics illuminate every scene, from the romance of “Maria” and “Tonight” to the sarcastic exultation of “America.”
