Last in a Long Line of Rebels

By: Lisa Lewis Tyre

Lexile Level: 660
Pages: 288 (6 discs)

12 year old Lou wanted a summer of excitement, but when her prayers are answered she wants to take it back. Living in a Civil War home that might be torn down, Lou and her friends start to unravel her Mayhew family history trying to save it.

Even though racism is a common thread throughout this book, it is quite a happy story. As an adult, I was able to unravel the mysteries much earlier than the charterers, but it was still a fun read. This book might inspire kids to ask about their own family history, but it probably will not be as exciting as Lou’s.
