Shannon's Season's Readings
Making the most of winter with books to get in that hygge (hue-gah) state of mind
First of all you ask what the heck is hygge?
Well if you didn't know Denmark has rated as the one of the happiest countries for many years in a row. How could a country who bodes long, freezing, dark winters be happy? The answer is sort of simple: hygge. Hygge is that cozy warm feeling you get when the candles are lit, you are enjoying a homemade meal and warm drink, possibly sitting around a fire place with a soft blanket on your lap, and either alone with a book in hand or among your close friends or relatives laughing and chatting or playing a game.
Can you picture it now?
So with the cold weather still ahead there are plenty of opportunities to hygge, but if you are like me, you want to make sure you get it just right. . .
Take a look at these titles:
The little book of hygge : Danish secrets to happy living
The hygge life : embracing the Nordic art of coziness through recipes, entertaining, decorating, simple rituals, and family traditions
How to hygge : the Nordic secrets to a happy life
The book of hygge : the Danish art of contentment, comfort, and connection
Joy of hygge : how to bring everyday pleasure and danish coziness into your life
The year of living Danishly : uncovering the secrets of the world's happiest country
So grab a warm drink and one of these books and I promise, it will be Spring before you know it!
