Goodbye Stranger

By: Rebecca Stead

Pages: 289

Lexile Level: 560L

For many years, Bridge and her two best friends have been rock solid, but middle school and life has tested their friendship. Boys, other girlfriends and family situations make it difficult sometimes.

A high school girl takes a mental health day. Her life also feels like it is out of control.

Two separate stories, told simultaneously, will weave together, making many connections along the way.

This novel has a lot of good messages to teach middle school students, but it is a little too sugar-coated for me. Things usually get better, but not necessary as quickly as this book makes it out. Also, some situations escalate much faster than the book portrays. Great book to discuss with a child in a time where cell phones, computers and school social media crises are commonplace.
