Title: The Goldfish Boy
Author: Lisa Thompson
Lexile Level: 750L
Pages: 320
12 year old Matt has OCD. He is so worried about germs that he refuses to leave his home. He spends his time looking out the window, and carefully observing everything that happens in his neighborhood. He notes the time that people leave their houses, and what they can be seen doing outside. He takes special interest in his elderly neighbor Mr. Charles, and his two grandchildren, Casey & Teddy. The children are staying with Mr Charles while their mother is conducting business in New York. One day Teddy goes missing, and Matthew teams up with 2 neighborhood kids to try and figure out what happened to him. Matthew learns a lot about himself and others while completing his investigation. This is a really good read for upper elementary students who enjoy a good mystery. It also teaches students about accepting others as they are.
