Communications & Marketing Manager

The Oak Lawn Public Library has an opening for a full-time Communications and Marketing Manager. The Manager oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of marketing efforts, brand identity, visual communication, and public relations that support OLPL’s mission, vision, and values.

It is a 37.5 hour per week exempt position with a schedule that includes daytime, evening, and weekend hours as necessary. The salary range is $47,433.36 - $70,675.92 and includes a generous benefits package per the Library’s current Personnel Policy. Benefits include: four weeks of vacation, sick leave and personal time, health insurance, IMRF pension plan, and life insurance. This position reports to the Director.

We are seeking energetic, self-motivated individuals who enjoy working with the public. Excellent customer service skills are a key element of this position. Duties include: Assisting patrons in the use of library materials and equipment, compiling data and maintaining records, and other clerical duties associated with a busy public service desk.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the marketing plan, including content for online and print promotions.
  • Create short-term and long-term goals, including work on the strategic plan.
  • Design initiatives that engage current cardholders and potential patrons alike
  • Communicate and publicize the value of Library’ services and programs to the community through newsletters, print and digital publications, social media and the Library’s website.
  • Coordinate projects, programs, and services within and between department
  • Collaborate with the Graphic Designer and unit staff for visual communication and social media strategies.
  • Serve as liaison to the Friends and Foundation and assist with fundraising.
  • Oversee meeting room use by outside groups.
  • Manage special projects.

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant course of study required, Master’s Degree preferred; at least three years of experience in the field; strong supervisory experience; understanding of writing for publication, social media, and the web; knowledge of branding and promotional design is essential.

Part-time Library Assistant I, Grade III

Library Computer Center

Adult/Young Adult Services Department

The Adult/Young Adult Services Department, Audiovisual Unit, has a position open for a part-time Library Assistant I, Level I, Grade III. The current wage range begins at $12.59 per hour; and there are Level I employee benefits associated with the position, per the current Personnel Policy.

This is an 8-19 hour per week “non-exempt” position with a work schedule that includes daytime, evening, and weekend (Saturday and Sunday) hours year-round.

We are seeking energetic, self-motivated individuals who enjoy working with the public. Excellent customer service skills are a key element of this position. Duties include: Assisting patrons in the use of library materials and equipment, compiling data and maintaining records, and other clerical duties associated with a busy public service desk.

Some college or special library training or related library experience is desirable, including knowledge of current audiovisual materials. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, and Word) is a plus. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Part-time Librarian, Grade X

Adult/Young Adult Services Department

The Adult & Young Adult Services Department has an opening for a part-time Librarian, Grade X. This is an 8-19 hour per week “non-exempt” position with a work schedule consisting of evening, and weekend hours. Current work schedule includes working two evenings per week and every third weekend, with the ability to take on extra hours as the need arises.

Wage range begins at $24.32 per hour. There are Level 1 benefits associated with this employment status position as per the Personnel Policy.

The position affords the opportunity to use the full range of resources, including print and electronic resources, and to provide superior reference service in a busy public library. Adult Services Desk duties include answering patrons’ questions and teaching them how to use the online catalog, assisting them with use of the library’s collections, and providing instruction in use of print and other electronic resources. The position also includes participating in collection development. Other duties also include participating in the planning and offering of adult programs and services.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school is required. Library experience is desirable. Basic knowledge of library automation is required, and experience working with SWAN’s automated catalog is a plus. The successful candidate must be approachable and friendly, and enjoy meeting and working with people of diverse backgrounds, and must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
