Part-time, Level 2, Library Assistant, Grade III
Customer Services Department

The Customer Services Department has an immediate opening for a Level 2, Library Assistant, Grade III. We are seeking a candidate who has a positive and optimistic attitude to join our staff. This candidate would be a very friendly and approachable person who enjoys serving our patrons of diverse backgrounds. This full-services department serves our patrons in a streamlined, efficient manner.

This is a 20-28-hour per week “non-exempt” position with a work schedule of daytime, evening, and weekend hours as required. Current rate of pay is $12.79 to $17.65 per hour and there are Level 2 employee benefits (including IMRF participation, sick, vacation, and holiday pay), per the current Personnel Policy.

We are seeking energetic, self-motivated individuals who enjoy working with the public. Some of the major duties include: answering directional questions and assisting patrons in the use of library collections, catalogs, and equipment and ILL requests and other statistics; maintaining circulation records; contacting persons for lost/damaged items; checking library materials in/out; issuing library cards; collecting fines; calling reserves; and other clerical duties associated with a busy public service desk; and assisting in Outreach and programs as needed..

Minimum qualifications: High school diploma. Some college or special library training highly desirable. Some related library background preferable. Must have ability to meet and work with people of diverse backgrounds easily and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and to organize work efficiently. Ability to stand for long periods. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Enterprise online catalogue, SirsiDynix Workflows systems is a plus.

Part-time Page, Grade I
A/YA Services Department

The Adult/Young Adult Services Department is seeking a Part-time Page (8-19 hours/week). Starting wage will be $9.78 per hour and there are Level 1 employee benefits associated with this position, per the current Personnel Policy.

This is a “non-exempt” position with a work schedule that includes primarily morning and afternoon hours, with a regular weekend rotation. Some evening hours when needed.

Duties include: Sorting and shelving of library materials; shelf-reading, emptying returned material drops; shifting collections; and general maintenance of the A/YA book and audiovisual collections. There is a possibility of special projects, as necessary.

Part-time Page, Grade I
Youth Services Department

The Youth Services Department has a position opening for a part-time Page, Grade I. Starting wage is $9.78 per hour.

This is an 8-19-hour per week “non-exempt” position with a work schedule that includes some evenings, some days and weekend hours.

Duties include: Shelving of library materials; shifting books; shelf-reading; keeping the department in good order; and possibly assisting other staff with department displays, programs, and special projects.
