Helping Your Child Count!

How can you help your child recognize their numbers and start counting on their own?

Here are some tips that may help:

1. Check out our counting books that are located in the special “123” picture book bin.

As you read the book, have your child repeat the numbers, and count the objects on each page.

2. Sing numerical nursery rhymes and songs with your child, such as “Ten in a Bed” and “Five Little Monkeys.”  Use your fingers to count as you are singing together.

3. Count everything!  When you sitting at the dinner table, count the number of plates, forks, and people.  If you are out on a walk, count the number of people at the park, or the number of cars on the street.  There are unlimited opportunities to count every day!

4. Print out a set of numbers on notebook paper.  Have your child trace the numbers and write the numbers on their own.
