A delicious graphic novel... Relish, by Lucy Knisley

Two things: I am not a memoir person and I am not a graphic novel person. I’ve tried, oh how I’ve tried. But memoirs leave me cold, and graphic novels leave me wanting more. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I loved Lucy Knisley’s graphic memoir!

To be honest, I was probably predisposed to this book just because it’s about food; there’s little in life I like better than reading about food. But Knisley has a knack for telling a story, in words and pictures. She eats her way through childhood, from lamb to mushrooms to McDonald’s French fries. She cooks and eats through college and graduate school, all the while sharing delightful illustrated recipes. Many of the sweet stories also include helpful cooking tips; this is a book you can, well, relish. You can enjoy it at a very surface level, but you can also learn from it, which makes it pretty awesome.

If you’re not sure about graphic novels, I can’t urge you enough to check out this book. You may surprise yourself—I sure did! Click here to place a copy on hold.
