Gone Green: Community Garden Volunteers
Thank you for giving back to your community
Even though it rained a good part of the day, by 2 pm on June 28th it had stopped, and a couple of volunteers were able to plant in the Oak Lawn Community Garden. Did you know there is a section of the garden planted just for donating to the local food pantries? Community members can also purchase private plots to grow their own vegetables, too.
Dolly, the Garden Manager, had us create a bean sprout tepee, and the food pantry will get the harvest. First we installed a dozen nine-foot tall bamboo poles. At the base of each pole, a pea plant was planted, composted, and watered.
On July 12th, we will be back in the garden. Registration opens July 2nd. This opportunity is for youth ages 10-14. Hope to see you then!
